Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day - March 2009

I don't know when it happened that one full month passed again. We still have no spring :( There are some signs, that it is on its way.
I still keep myself going on with the help of modest and beautiful indoor plants. On the above picture Euphorbia Milli (Thorn Crown) and amazing Sedum morganianum Buretti on the right.

Calanchoe blooms since December. I changed its place from very warm one to little cooler and it seems to like it better.

Poinsettia looks still fine. Next month I will change the soil in the pots and prune it.

One of my orchids (Phalaenopsis) is still blooming, while the other one is just about to rebloom.

Lemon is very insisting on flowering. Since one month it sends new buds, but I keep to pinch them. I prefer the plant to get bigger, not to spend energy on flowers and fruits. But no! It keeps sending 2 new ones in place of one pinched by me! I gave up. I will let it flower.

This is the only outside bloom I have this month. Galanthus nivalis - welcome!

Spring is very late this year! I had much more blooms one year ago in March.

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day is kindly hosted by Carol at May Dreams Gardens.

  1. I think spring is late everywhere this year. At least you have your lovely houseplants! And spring will come ... soon. It has arrived here and I'm sure will edge its way northwards very soon.

  3. You have some lovely indoor blooms, Ewa. I love the snowdrops, too; I really must plant some this fall!

Thank you for all the helpful tips on your last post on pruning hydrangeas. I have a couple new varieties this year, and it's often confusing to know how to prune each one. This was a great help.

  4. Hurrah - snowdrops at last! You'll soon be catching up with us Ewa.

You asked about how I count my snowdrops. As they're in lots of clumps, I can easily count the snowdrops in each clump and then add them all up!

  5. Lovely blooms. It's so interesting to see how each year varies by comparing what happens from year to year.

  6. Very pretty, Ewa! I hate to say it, but spring is a bit earlier here, than in the last couple of years. We were due for an early one, though. Maybe it will just happen overnight there for you!

  7. I was wondering why my Kalanchoe was rewarding me with reblooms - thanks for figuring out that it wants a bit of coolness. I set mine on the windowsill of an uninsulated window. I'm sorry spring is so slow in coming this year. Thank goodness for Snowdrops!

  11. You may be slow to approach spring outdoors, but clearly you have it with you inside. Here's wishing you warmer days and garden awakenings...

  12. Hi Ewa, your orchids are beautiful. Those snowdrops are tough little things, but so delicate-looking. I hope spring will visit you soon, unpack and stay until summer arrives!

  13. House plants really make such a difference in our homes. Glad you have some indoor beauties to look at and enjoy until the weather warms up.
Those Euphorbias can live for years.
My Grandmother had one for at least 20 years.

  16. I felt like spring was late, but then all of a sudden, I had crocuses and irises everywhere. You'll have blooms soon, too, I feel it!

Thanks for joining in for bloom day!

  17. I have some...(zinnias? I can't even remember now) that I keep pinching back, hoping they will grow, not flower, like your lemon. I am close to giving up too! They are only about 2 inches tall! Oh well. I will be happy with the blooms when I have them.
