Hooray for farmers this time! The different case studies about GMO and Monsanto are being published more and more often. Recently I saw an article that seems reliable, so if interested you may also read about another case
Monsanto versus farmer, contamination of crops and superweeds created by corporate practice.
Excellent article Ewa, thanks for the heads up! Who owns life indeed!
ReplyDeleteYes, Percy Schmeiser is a hero and has done great things in the battle against Monsanto.
ReplyDeleteAt the same time he had to pay his own legal costs, for a battle that went all the way to the Canadian Supreme Court.
He didn't win any significant compensation from Monsanto, and his life was turned upside down for years during the fight. He had spent years before this breeding his own special canola (rape) varieties for his own farm, that have now been ruined by genetic contamination from Monsanto's plants.
So yes, he won, but at a huge personal cost. A very bitter sweet victory.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Big corporations need to be fought to the end.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on this controversy. I had heard of the problems Monsanto had been causing to innocent farmers.

Ewa - Thanks for posting this link. What courageous people the Schmeisers are to stand up to Monsanto.
