Isn't it late?
........
I think so. Why is that? Do you know the answer?
.......
Maybe this is such kind that flowers late?
......
Or maybe lack nutrients? as brugmansia is very very hungry. I started feed it in June with tomato fertiliser - is that the reason?
.....
This plant is big - approx. 180 cm - and 4-5 years old. I have received it last autumn from a neighbor living few streets away, who read my blog and decided to give it to me as a gift.
....
21st of August is definitely late for Brugmansia to bloom - I have no earlier experience with it.
...
Don't you think these thin, long thingies on the flowers are cute?
..
Blooming Friday is the day when Katarina at Roses and Stuff gathers us together to show Friday's blooms. This is great opportunity for happy gardeners to share their happy blooms.
.
What is your Friday Bloom?
Brugs need lots of fertilizer and lots of water. Tomato fertilizer is probably not the best. I put time release 17-17-17 on every six months, and then hit them with a 20-20-20 or 15-30-15 every week to keep them blooming. They hate bloom fertilizer...it makes them drop leaves. Still, most of mine don't want to bloom unless it's cooler. I envy people who can get theirs to bloom all summer, as mine refuse.
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique plant...very interesting shapes in the bloom!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb for this info. I will try your way.
ReplyDeleteThis is the time now, when it got cooler, but I still wonder how people make them bloom in the summer. Maybe my pot is too small? hmm....
I can't say if it's late or not. I tried burgmansia for a few years but never saw any blooms.. I have to settle with yor picture :)
ReplyDeleteIt's an impressive plant, I think, but I didn't feed mine enough this year. No flowers at all... You obviously treated yours better than I did! ; )
ReplyDeleteKatarina
They are very beautiful flowers, a lovely shade of yellow.
ReplyDeleteEspecially the "thingies" are cute..Have a nice weekend//Eva
ReplyDeleteI call those 'thingie' tendrils. My brugs have been blooming since the first of July. They'll bloom for about a week, then they're done for a couple of weeks, then they'll bloom again. I put a timed-release general fertilizer in their containers and in the soil around those planted in the ground. They do love the water!
ReplyDeleteMine are blooming again now and smelling heavenly, especially at night. Another month and I'll have to think about bringing them back inside. Last year, I was able to keep one upstairs and it bloomed all winter! The others overwintered in the cool basement where they lost most of their leaves, but in the spring they come right back pretty quickly.
I did notice this year that they didn't grow as much as in previous years. But we've also had a very weird weather summer.
I'm glad you're having such good success with yours, Ewa! They're beautiful and fascinating plants!
Thanks Deb for this info.good one ....thanks for sharing..

ReplyDeleteHi. You have a kind neibour. A gift that everyone can see. (The plant can not be put away in a box). Many enjoy the flower. Beautiful and really big and unique plant. /Amanda
ReplyDeleteHi Ewa & everyone!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog just a few weeks ago when I asked ask.com for info about making new Brugs from cuttings and here you are with a new Brug update!
I bought 4 Brug seedlings 4 years ago. Last year one had 2 blossoms for the first time, a week before our first frost here in Western PA, where we have basically the same climate and growing conditions as Warsawa. This year that same plant bloomed for the first time 7/3:

Because it kept wilting I planted it in the ground where it has grown tremedously and is now in its 3rd blooming cycle:

It has a yellow color on the buds but the open blooms turn peachy pink.
I also have a yellow exactly like yours, it is my tallest almost 6foot tall and it bloomed just the other day just like yours! It is in a pot and not directly in the ground, which is probably why its growth is not as exuberant as the peachy /pink one:

PS Both sides of my family were from the area around Warsaw settling here in W. PA in 1880! I was the first in my family to return in 80 years and fell in love with the beauty of Poland and her people!
Max, I saw your pink brug - it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHappy you like Poland.
