The Vegetable Free Breeding Award

The Vegetable Free Breeding Award 2015 was initiated by the Humane Earth Foundation to identify, reward and inform about the work of home gardeners or professional vegetable growers in original vegetable creation.

It is the vocation of the Humane Earth Foundation, a private Swiss Foundation to support the work of associations defending the environment, at European level, by awarding them grants. We are indeed convinced that the role of these associations is essential: very often, they are the only ones that raise the alarm, advocate the necessary changes, and put forward constructive alternatives.

The Foundation's board of trustees decided to launch this Award, and to allocate the means necessary, as an extension to its activities in support of organic farming and the conservation of old vegetable and cereal varieties.

This contest, which will take place during the year 2015, at the European level, will be rewarded with:
* one 5,000 euros award for professional vegetable growers
* one 3,000 euros award for home gardeners

All details related to those awards and how to participate are available on the website http://freebreeding.org

*WE WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD PASS ON THIS CALL FOR APPLICATIONS AS WIDELY AS POSSIBLE IN YOUR NETWORKS*

Write a blog. Discover garden. Get mentioned in garden magazine as discoverer.

I have two questions to you.
The first one, do you still believe in coincidence? And the second one, do you remember my blog post about most stunning cactus garden I have ever seen?

Would you call it a coincidence that I met the owner of the most stunning cactus garden in Europe? I wouldn’t. Although he appeared in front of me in most unexpected way – I will tell you more about it  one day - we started to chat. I said I design gardens and write a blog. He said he’s got a large cactus garden. I was thinking at first he is joking… you have no bloody idea what kind of garden you need to have, if you want to impress me or make me want to write about it… - run through my mind - hahaha! But short glance at his face made me also think that I need to check it.

Few days later I was standing at the gate of Casa do Monte in Albufeira (Algarve, Portugal) and after entering the garden… wow!!! I was truly impressed. The rest you know, or if you don’t know, you may see it here.  Would you still call it a coincidence?

I write a blog for couple of years by now already, I have travelled long distances to see many beautiful gardens that I have shared here. This garden was the most surprising one!

But this is not the end of the story. My publication got the attention of the garden magazine in Algarve - Mediterranean Gardening and Outdoor Living - and the magazine publication followed in August 2015, which is two months after being discovered and published here on Ewa in the Garden.

Nevertheless Ewa in the Garden holds the privilege of discovered most stunning cactus garden in Portugal and in Europe. So, write a blog. You never know who's watching.... eee... reading.

Oriental Patio Garden Before and After

Making a perfect design means making it perfect not only for the people that will spend  there most of their time, but also decrypting ‘genius loci’ – the spirit of the place. Gray and dull Warsaw calls for colors of different kind.

While searching for the divine inspiration, oriental part of my soul whispered to my ears, and not even realising how I knew that the best would be ‘The Oriental Opulence Spiced a bit with Decadence’. Client loved it! The colorful concept found great space in the client’s heart. And we made it!

Have a look at before and after photos.

Algarve - vegetable garden - Day 29

And on the hot and dusty day 29, my vegetable garden looked like this.

I was harvesting lettuce every, just for one person. Just waiting 4 weeks and you may have your own chlorophyll and other precious nutrients to heal your body.
Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and courgettes were flowering promising good produce.

But then my doctor said no tomatoes and no peppers, as they are inflammatory for the body :( Can I say luckily I got yes to lettuce (lot's of it), cucumbers and courgettes? Yes, I think so.
I will be honest right now. I stopped eating tomatoes one year ago, and I must say I feel better. However I was hoping this cruel ban passed over... But no... So there will be lots of tomatoes and peppers for friends...
