Franch way to prune lavender is maybe not really French by tradition. I call it French because for the first time I've heard about pruning garden with scissors. Normally I would be very suspicious, but the result is stunning. The owner of the method is Nicole de Vésian, the retired fashion stylist at House of Hermes, spent the last ten years
of her life dressing rather her garden. She created an iconic Provencal garden of textures, shapes, scents and
stones, without flowers. And she used scissors (!) for that as well!
I am always struggling to prune nicely my lavender. Inspired by Nicole, I decided to prune it this time with scissors. Let me tell you... I didn't expect it to be so easy and fast. Just look at the photo....

Looks great. Lavendar does really well in Tucson. I've never tried scissors before but it looks really nice. Thanks for sharing the info.
Dear Ewa, thanks a lot for your visit and comments on my new blog.
And thanks for the idea of pruning the lavender plants with scissors as if they were box oder yew trees. I think I will try that, I have some more lavenders to prune this weekend.
Have a nice weekend, Monika
I'm soooooo lazy. I let the flowers fade, fade, fade, then snap the stalks off in about 2 handfuls.
XO T
I use scissors in the garden all the time.
Monika, I wonder how was it?
Tara, my lavender gets ultra leggy if not pruned :) no way to not prune it. Lucky you!
Darla, so you are "haute couture" gardener :)
Must admit I've never pruned lavender with scissors before? Any body any tips on preventing lavendar from growing too leggy? I always end up replacing mine after a few years?
Tom, great question. The only way is hard pruning. And no fear of doing so.
Otherwise it gets leggy and hopeless after 2-3 years.
