Colorful Perennials - New Garden Design

I am very happy to show you today the colorful perennials garden located in Poland that I have designed 3 years ago.
You see it in almost autumnal version. The main idea was to make it interesting all year round and make it flowering from early spring till late autumn.

Nothing tastes better than organic home grown tomatoes. Thank you Ania!

Planting Tulips December Call

Normally it’s winter here at this season. Usually it’s snowing and freezing as well. Not this year. Temperature is in plus. Grass is green. And I will use this time to move some plants around the garden and plant bulbs longing for soil since weeks. Life kept me too busy to find time. I have it now.
Any unusual garden chore you are doing now?

Happy Winter Solstice everyone!

Xoxo,
Ewa

DIY Garden Bottle Lanterns - Pretty and on Penny Budget

When autumn days are getting shorter, every little beam of light in the garden is welcome.
A good choice to beautify the veranda, garden paths or a romantic table are handmade bottle-lanterns.  This decoration is safe, its preparation will make us a lot of joy and warm, flickering flames of candles will improve our mood immediately.

To prepare lanterns you will need

-          empty milk or kefir bottles
-          knife for cutting glass
-          sandpaper
-          clear multi-purpose glue
-          colorful autumn leaves
-          tealights

How to

Cut off the bottom of the bottle using knife for cutting glass. Put the bottle in the sink and carefully pour a small amount of boiling water into the bottle - the glass will break and the bottom will fall off. Grind the edges of the bottle with sandpaper. Be sure to wear safety gloves while doing this.
Prepare fresh, colorful autumn leaves. Stick them to the outer side of the bottle. You can mix red and yellow leaves so the final effect will be even more beautiful. Carefully glue the edges of each leaf. Leave for 24 hours to let it dry. Dried glue should create air bubbles!

Space of the tealights, cover them with lanterns and wait for the evening to come. Ta-dah!
It's also a great idea for upcoming Halloween!

Off white... magic

Yesterday I have visited such beautiful place.. I didn't want to leave it.... just have a look - how beautiful it looks in off white and other matching colors. Isn't it top class interior decoration? Lovely, cosy, elegant and little rustic. I feel that all November little worries go away... feeling warmer... beautiful place to live... OK, it is restaurant in a little, artistic village 140 km away from Warsaw... have a look...

This made me double inspired to change something at home. Interior decoration is my new focus after garden doesn't require that much work anymore...

Visit me again, as surprises and more beauty come soon, and in the meantime...

Happy home and patio decoration, while garden goes to sleep!

...cherry leaves... autumn coloring... any help in guessing the name of the variety?

... my cherry tree, beside flowering beautifully and fruiting has one more lovely habit - its leaves are turning in reach yellow color in the autumn... you see here view from one of the windows... let's go outside and see how does it look...

...looks beautiful, right?

... I don't see many so yellow leaves on cherries in other gardens... not every variety  of sweet cherry has this surprising habit...

... this cherry tree is very old... maybe 20 years or more... no idea what is the name  of the variety...

.... do you have an idea what variety this could be? its fruits are very dark color, almost black... any idea?

Plant jewellery grows around you

It looks like pieces and seeds you know from your garden? Exactly...

... look what also you can do using plants for hand made plant jewellery...

..earrings made of chamaecyparissus, seeds of Ligustrum vulgare (Wild Privet, also known as Common Privet or European Privet) and leaves...

...beautiful bracelet made on ribbon...

...decorative apple fruits and leaves of Aristolochia known as birthworts, pipevines or Dutchman's pipes,...

I've spent beautiful Saturday learning how to make it and also sharing some pictures from my garden travels this spring. It was sunny, colorful and cheerful day. Thank you!

Winter gardens worth to bother?

Winter gardens can truly cheer us up when everything around is dull or even covered white with snow.
If you are still reluctant whether winter gardens are worth to bother, have a look at the pictures below and let me know what you think.

Do you remember great garden tour we had at the sloping garden?

Pictures of this airy light and beautiful winter garden were taken in December when everything was already dull and brown, short before snow appeared. By the way do you know that snow is like sex?
