This big bird landed in her garden this morning! Before her first coffee it's always hard to say what she sees, this is why she grabbed the camera. The bird was so kind to wait - that was really nice :)
This is a moment when your help is needed. Do you know what kind of bird it is? Grey heron maybe?
This gracious guest landed in the garden in Algarve - maybe that could be of help.

It looks like a Heron! Great picture too!
Looks like a Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) to me.
Hey Vesna, this one didn't have that thing on the back of the head. Could that still be blue heron?
Hey Bushman, I only pressed the button - she was posing almost :)
Vesna, you might be right :) this could be great blue heron - very rare in Europe :) As I am in South-West Portugal now, close to Azores, that might be the explanantion.
Czapla?;)
It looks more like a grey heron to me... but to be honest, im not entirely familiar with herons in general.
Great Blue Heron.
What part of the world area you in? It is a Great Blue Heron in the US. If you are in Europe, I believe it is called the Grey Heron. It is all relative to your location. Regardless, it is a gorgeous bird. To see more beautiful herons, check out my photo site at: http://debhirt.blogspot.com
I consulted a bird expert. Had it happened in America it woukd have been a Blue Heron, but because you're in Europe it's a Gray Heron.
Deb, great bird photos you have on your blog :) thans for sharing.
Klara, I am in the furtherst Western corner of Europe, West-South Portugal, close to Azores. I've read that Great Blue Herons are reported to be found here sometimes.
It looks like a Great Blue Heron to me.
Hello Charles, good to see you around. Thanks for dropping by. There is difference in their size between gray and blue heron - right?
